The Madison: 39 Queen Street, Melbourne

A twelve storey concrete apartment building with a granite facade. It includes a basement. Formerly an office building known as the Provident Life Building. Designed by AS & RA Eggleston in an early form of International Modernism it was built in 1937. It is one of the first examples of a European functionalist style of office building as opposed to the commercial classical revival style that was in vogue at that time. Refurbished, subdivided and converted to apartments in 1994.
