Lonsdale Central
441 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne
A four storey brick former warehouse with a basement. Designed by Tomkins Brothers in the Neo-Baroque style. It was built by Shillabeer & Sons for the leather goods manufacturer Michaelis Hallenstein & Co in 1924 at a cost 39,000 pounds. The company remained until it was purchased by the Commonwealth in 1961 and occupied by the Post Master General's Department. Refurbished, subdivided and converted to residential, some office and basement parking in 2003.
